1. We’re Back in Tokyo (Kenji [Kenny] Yoshihara 吉原健司)

I definitely think that Kenji is going to be one of the more interesting members. Like Taishi-kun of Aloha State, he seems to do well with the ladies (though I think Taishi-kun was more attractive). Kenny is a guitarist, who goes by “Kenny.” He has a deeper voice than the rest of the men, sports a rugged beard—uncommon in Japan—and the rest of the ladies of the house comment on how “shaberi yasui” (easy to talk to) he is.

One thing that I found surprising in the beginning is when Kaori asks him why he became a member of Terrace House. He responds with this:

I think it’s difficult to date publicly in Japan.
日本でオープンな恋愛できないじゃないですか

And then Kaori says:

I agree. Romance often happens in secrecy.
あっ　確かにちょっとコソコソね

I’m like what???

First of all, I was confused by the Japanese, which says “open na renai,” which sounds in English like “open relationship” (a relationship where you can date people other than your boyfriend/girlfriend). But the English subtitles say, “date publicly,” which means go out on dates in public.

And then Kaori says that dating in Japan happens secretly???

I’m so confused!! What is an “open na renai?” Why do Japanese people date in secrecy? Please discuss in the comments!

(By the way….I think that either Kenji likes Haruka, or they like each other. Do you remember when they left Risako alone in the supermarket? They seemed to like talking in private with each other!)

けんじくんは是非ナンバーワン面白いメンバーになると思う。アロハステートのたいしくんみたいに女子にモテそう（なのにたいしくんの方がイケメンだと思う）。けんじはKennyっていうニックネームを使ってるギターリスト。他の男性のメンバーより声が低いし、珍しくもじゃもじゃのヒゲもあるし、他の女子のメンバーは「しゃべりやすい」って言ってる。

びっくりの一点は、最初けんじが入ったばっかりに、かおりちゃんはなぜテラスハウスに住みたいと思いましたかって聞いたらけんじはこれを言いました：

で、かおりちゃんの返事は

へええええええええ？

まず、私はあの日本語も意味が不明。そのまま「オープンな恋愛」は英語に通訳したら意味が”open relationship”に見える。Open relationshipは自分の彼氏／彼女以外の人ともデートできるってニュアンス。でも英語の字幕に書いてある言葉は”date publicly”。それは２人でどこか出掛けるのはできないっていう意味。

そしたらかおりちゃんは日本で恋愛は秘密なこと？？？
